Class of 1966 Lodge

This summer, I have been on a mission to take advantage of the outdoor opportunities offered by Dartmouth. The Dartmouth Outing Club (DOC) is a gem of an organization that offers a variety of classes, trips, gear, and even cabin rentals. This past week, I went on two cabin camping trips to the Class of 1966 Lodge.

The Class of 1966 Lodge was built and designed by students and is able to accommodate up to 49 individuals. It is located a 10 minute drive from Hanover upon, which cabin-goers must then partake in an easy 15 minute hike in order to get to the cabin. The cabin has electricity and running water (though the water is not potable) and has a privy nearby.

On Sunday I went cabin camping with my sorority, Kappa Kappa Gamma, for a sisterhood event. In the Cabin, we sat around a large table and talked, played games, and enjoyed pizza and s'mores for the evening. On this particular occasion, many people did not want to stay overnight, so after a couple of hours, we packed up and went back to Hanover. It was the perfect bonding event and opportunity to be outdoors for a few hours.

I went on another cabin camping trip that same Tuesday with a large friend group. As anyone can rent cabins through the DOC, groups are always welcome to rent out spaces and use it whenever they like it! Almost forty people came over to the Class of '66 Lodge where we enjoyed building a fire, playing poker, and socializing. It was amazing to come to his cabin nestled in the middle of the woods for a second time during the same week. Groups came and went as their schedules permitted. Some of my friends had big exams the next day so they left a little after having had dinner while others stayed the night and got back to Hanover just in time for their morning classes.

Unique opportunities such as these have made my time at Dartmouth truly special. Even though I am not the most skilled outdoorsy person in the world, I am surrounded by plenty of opportunities to partake in outdoor experiences through Dartmouth. As a subpar camper, I still loved to bond with various groups by participating in these cabin trips. These are some of the one-of-a-kind experiences that are only available here.
