People Places Pines
Over the past year, I've talked a lot with prospective students. Picking a college is a big deal, but if I knew what I do now, I'd still pick Dartmouth a dozen times over.

In case you didn't know, Dartmouth operates on a quarter system, which means that in each term, students typically take three classes. However, they can also elect to add an additional course!

Snow, snow, snow, and more snow! Although my courses have definitely been difficult to manage, I have still been able to participate in some ~cool~ activities and admire winter in Hanover.

I was attracted by the opportunity to engage with first-year residents and shape their Dartmouth experiences, in addition to working with other UGAs and staff who shared my interest in helping others.

After almost a year off-campus, I came back to campus committed to the winter experience and I am simply loving it.

Dartmouth's tradition of a campus-wide midnight snowball fight lives on!

We so very wish you could step onto Dartmouth's campus yourself to witness the beauty of our winters live, but COVID-19 has made visiting campuses extremely difficult. I would love to share some of my favorite photos from this past snowy week!

With lots of things (understandably) still closed on campus, it's nice to know that study spaces are beginning to open up again in a safe and responsible way.

From classes to extracurriculars to book club, there are endless communities to join at Dartmouth!

This winter, I am working as a Collis Community Ambassador to help reopen campus.

Ask The Bloggers
For those who are away/have been away from campus: what do you miss most about Hanover and Dartmouth?

In a famous Supreme Court case, Dartmouth College v. Woodward, Daniel Webster uttered the famous quote of Dartmouth: "It is a small college, and yet there are those who love it!"

What's something about Dartmouth that you didn't know existed prior to your enrollment that you couldn't imagine your life without now?

That's a great question, and I think there's a lot of ways I could go with this one. In fact, I even asked some of my friends what they thought, and they all each shared 3-4 things with me.

How are linguistics classes at Dartmouth?

So happy you asked! Linguistics at Dartmouth is a unique program situated between a ton of different disciplines, but that's exactly what makes it amazing.

How do you combat homesickness?

The summer before coming to Dartmouth, I was anxious about moving thousands of miles away from my friends and parents. Once I arrived on campus, however, many of these worries quickly dissipated.

What's something you've done at Dartmouth that you couldn't have done or experienced anywhere else?

This is a hard question because I feel like there are many things unique to Dartmouth. The location, the community, the traditions...

How do you create relationships with faculty at Dartmouth?

Getting to know Dartmouth faculty enriches school life in so many ways. It's simple, helpful, and often fun -- even virtually!

What tips do you have for high school juniors who are launching their college searches virtually this spring?

Hi, thanks for visiting! As someone from the Class of 2023, it's crazy to me that all you 26's are already looking at colleges. I'm excited to welcome all of you guys on campus, although that means I'll be a senior… scary!

If you didn't physically visit campus before choosing Dartmouth, how did you make the decision to enroll? What factors influenced your decision?

That's a great question! Thank you!

Have you received funding from Dartmouth for research, a project, or a trip? If so, how did you find that funding and what did it enable you to do?

Yes! I've received funding from Dartmouth for a number of projects over the past few years. The first instance was for research my sophomore year, which I was conducting at the Geisel School of Medicine in a genetics lab.

About
After considering similar schools, I decided on Dartmouth for its outing club, study abroad program, psychology and brain sciences department, and—let’s face it—the dining hall’s infamous chocolate chip cookies. While my exact major plans are still a work in progress, I am currently thinking history with minors in anthropology and creative writing with a focus (much to my parents’ chagrin) on the pre-modern era.

Henlo fren'! I’m Andra(’22), one of the new bloggers around. I’m from Bucharest, Romania, and my home-for-the-year is within the Thought Project LLC. Feel free to ask me about that or about what it’s like being an international from an under-represented country on campus. I’m an undeclared major, like so many other freshmen at Dartmouth, and have a bunch of passions I don’t have enough space to write about here, but which I’ll tackle little by little on my blog. Just keep reading!
