Back dog on trail filled with towering pine trees.

The quintessential college town of Hanover, New Hampshire offers more than just a world-class education. At Dartmouth, there are plenty of opportunities to be outdoors and in contact with nature. One of these hidden gems is Pine-Park which lies on the northern end of campus.

Pine Park is made of 93 acres of conservation area. It has a picturesque hiking trail system, known for its towering pines, lush landscapes, and serene atmosphere that offers an opportunity to escape into nature that is both invigorating and rejuvenating.

Over the past couple of weeks I have found myself going into Pine Park pretty often as I walk Peaches, the dog I am looking after this summer with some friends. The first time I did a trail with her a couple of weeks ago, I marveled at how beautiful Pine Park is.

It would seem like it was tucked away in some remote and undiscovered area, however, one of the remarkable aspects of Pine Park is its convenient location right on the Dartmouth College campus. Pine Park is 15 minutes away from the Dartmouth Green. This proximity means that students, faculty, and visitors have easy access to a tranquil oasis just steps away from academic buildings and bustling college life. When the demands of studying become overwhelming, taking a break to immerse oneself in the calming embrace of nature can provide much-needed clarity, inspiration, and a renewed sense of focus.

Pine Park is accessible to those that are not used to strenuous physical activity. The trails wind through a diverse landscape, featuring gentle slopes, meandering streams, and scenic overlooks. From leisurely strolls to more challenging hikes, Pine Park accommodates a range of preferences and abilities. As I walk the dog Peaches, I find myself going through different trails several times until I finally decide to head home. However, even if I find myself repeating the trails, they never cease to amaze me. Completing the trail loop took about 50 minutes. Currently, at the onset of the summer, these views look like they have been pulled from the set of Jurassic Park with an incredible amount of varying greenery—from towering pines to lush ferns.

The serene environment of Pine Park offers the perfect escape to unwind and reflect, amidst the demands of college life. It's a place where you can disconnect and foster a deeper connection with yourself and the world around you.

Exploring Pine Park at Dartmouth College combines the beauty of nature with the convenience of campus life. So, whether you're a student seeking a much-needed break, a nature lover in search of scenic beauty, or an adventurer longing for outdoor exploration, don't miss the opportunity to experience the wonders of Pine Park—it's an adventure.

From the tranquility it offers amidst a bustling college atmosphere to the diverse trails that cater to all skill levels, Pine Park is a haven for hikers and nature enthusiasts alike.
