Victory!

Dartmouth is known for many things, and one of those things is our many traditions on campus. Most of these traditions are well known among Dartmouth students and alumni and help create a sense of community for those participating. I recently did one of the most popular ones, the Lou's Challenge, with some of my friends!

The Lou's challenge is simple. There is a diner on Main Street called Lou's, and it opens pretty early at 6:30 AM. To complete the challenge, students have to pull an all-nighter and go eat at Lou's right when the diner opens. It's relatively simple, but staying up all night for it definitely requires some perseverance.

I wasn't expecting to do the Lou's challenge this week. I was hanging out with some of my friends in my fraternity, and one of them asked if I wanted to do it. Given it was my senior year, plus I had gotten all my work done for the day, I said yes. He got a couple of other friends to participate, and we started on our journey to complete the challenge.

The first couple of hours were relatively easy. I usually go to bed late, so I wasn't necessarily tired. Plus, I was able to chat with my friends to pass the time, and get to know them a little better.

When the clock hit 5 AM was when I hit a wall. Or maybe, the wall hit me. I started to get really tired, and the idea of sleep was extremely appealing, even with the energy drink in me I had earlier. But alas, I pushed through, and through the pouring rain, we made our way to Lou's on Main Street.

The food, especially after a long night, was a sweet reward. For some reason, doing an all-nighter and getting some good food in you really helped make the past couple of hours seem worth it. Not to mention, it was a great bonding experience for me and my friends.

Dartmouth's knack for traditions is one of the things that makes this place special. And if you decide to come here, make sure you try the Lou's challenge at least once!
