Q:

I love food and cultural-oriented food as well, so what's there to eat at Dartmouth?

A: shuyi

Great question! Although I never considered food while I was exploring and learning about different colleges, I've quickly realized that food is a huge factor for your college experience. At Dartmouth, we have several options around campus, and there are already several blogs detailing these spots! Here are blog posts by Love Tsai '23 and Brandon Mioduszewski '25! Personally, I've loved the food here at Dartmouth with constantly changing favorite meals.

However, instead of repeating what's already out there about Dartmouth Dining, I thought it'd be more interesting to talk about cultural-oriented food. As someone who's grown up in three different countries, I've tried food from several cultures. While I was worried that some of my favorite cultural-oriented foods might no longer be available in Hanover, New Hampshire, I've been pleasantly surprised by the variety of options. To start, Foco's daily menu often provides food from around the world, whether that's Vietnamese pho, Turkish kebab, or Italian wedding soup. Moving on to Collis, I often find myself enjoying the lunch entree, which changes everyday. Many of the lunch entrees are international meals, including my personal favorite: Tikka Masala from India! Furthermore, Collis serves sushi and sashimi for both lunch and dinner periods. It's really authentic, and made right in front of your eyes! Other than Dartmouth Dining, different clubs and organizations are often hosting food-related events. For example, the language department hosts Oktoberfest every fall, where you can find bratwurst (German sausage) and German pretzels. During Chinese New Year, various residential house communities celebrate by making dumplings or enjoying other foods from Chinese cuisine.

Outside of Dartmouth, Hanover has great restaurants serving international food. Restaurants like Jewel of India (Indian cuisine) and Han Fusion (Chinese restaurant) are only a short walk away from campus. If you travel a little further, you can find great Mexican, Cambodian and Turkish restaurants, in addition to a variety of other cuisines. Therefore, if you're craving a certain cuisine that you can't find at Dartmouth, I'm sure you'll be able to find it in town. Food is definitely an important aspect of college life, and I hope this blog (and the ones I've linked above) can help give you some insight on what it's like to eat at Dartmouth. Speaking from personal experience, I rarely leave Dartmouth to eat: I enjoy the food here and the various cultural options!
