Me with my family!

After a hectic senior fall, I am happy to have some time to rest with family for a couple of weeks before I get back to Hanover. Dartmouth's winter break—also known as "winterim"—runs from before Thanksgiving all the way to January. Dartmouth students don't have any finals after Thanksgiving break, so we get about six weeks of rest. After seeing endless TikToks and Tweets from students at other universities who are stressed with the two or so weeks of finals between Thanksgiving and Christmas break, I am thankful for the structure of Dartmouth's break and not having to worry about finals.

So what am I doing over winterim? Well for starters, I am sleeping a lot more. Not having classes gives me the opportunity to sleep in without the fear of oversleeping a class or missing a meeting for a club. I am also spending a lot of time with my family (and my dog). It's nice seeing family I haven't seen in a long time, and being able to catch up with them and talk about my time at college allows me to reflect on my experience over the term, both the positives and negatives. Just last night, we had a dinner party where my family and our friends made homemade pizza and caught up. It was a fun time!

But being at home doesn't mean I'm not still connected to Dartmouth. In terms of academics, I recently found out I got accepted to do an honors thesis in Creative Writing, and I am super excited to start working on my short stories while I'm on break. Not only that, but I am staying connected with my friends from back at school. I've realized that simply calling or FaceTiming friends can provide that sort of connection that helps when I miss my communities. I'm excited to see my friends when I get back, but for now, I am going to enjoy the break I have before winter term!
