An orange and blue sunset

Ode to Wheeler

O ancient Wheeler!

You are a beauty to behold I confess

I smile a secret smile each time I gaze upon your decorate facade

You are two halves to a whole

beauty and grace, functional and stable

Within your protective embrace my friends and I reside

I just want to let you know

That you are everything and more I could ask for in a dorm

I love your quirks and charms

Your clanging pipes in the cold of winter create symphonies

of whimsy and fill my room and heart with warmth galore

Your creaking floors sing a melody of joy

Oh the stories I could tell!

O ancient Wheeler!

You fill my heart with joy

I'm so glad we met

For without you there is no I!

While there are so many great options for First-Year housing, I am so grateful to call Wheeler my home.

Wheeler Hall is very centrally located on campus, with our main library a 30 second walk away and the dining hall only a few minutes away. Some of my closest friends live in Wheeler. It's also close to the gym and to all of the classes I have taken so far. Although we are in a central location, it doesn't get too loud and chaotic outside of Wheeler on busy Friday or Saturday nights. Wheeler is conveniently located, but also we have some privacy away from the other dorms and popular destinations on busy nights.

I really love how close we are to the library, as my constant proximity to the library encourages me to live a studious lifestyle.

My friend Sharika and I were being so productive in the East Reading Room, a study space in the library that is near Wheeler. Pictured on the left, Sharika is studious studying. Pictured on the right, I am contemplating both the meaning of life and my homework, as I am known to do in the East Reading Room.

Wheeler's architecture is so beautiful. Filled with historic Dartmouth charm, the interior constantly amazes me well. We have a sweeping wood staircase that winds up the center of the building. The main entrance is ornate and charming.

Inside my dorm room, we have a beautiful fireplace. Though it is not usable now, the wooden mantle is so charming and adds liveliness to our room. Another quirk is the painted over window. It is very quirky and unique, and I like to imagine what it was used for in a past life 100 years ago at Dartmouth. Wheeler is one of the oldest dorms on campus, and my dorm feels both homey and cool.

I really lucked out with dorm housing this year!
