A view of Dartmouth campus

The spring term of my junior year has finally arrived! The weather has warmed up, so now I am delighted to be wearing shorts and sweatshirts outside, instead of my heavy coat and boots (however, there have been some cold days where the coat is needed). And for the first time since my sophomore fall, instead of taking three courses—apart from sophomore summer, where I traded one course slot for research in the English department—I am not taking any classes! I am taking my first off term, where I am doing a research fellowship through the Leslie Center for Humanities. In this term, I will be working on an interconnected short story collection set in an evangelical youth group. I am working with Professor Vievee Francis on this project, and I am really excited to focus entirely on it this term.

Since I am working on a fellowship and not taking classes, that makes my schedule more flexible, so I'm making an emphasis on getting closer to my friends who are on campus, as well as investing in organizations I am a part of. Just this weekend, I was able to play spike ball on the green for the first time in almost a year with some of my friends. It was a blast, but I realized that playing shoeless wasn't the best idea, as my feet got really cold!

I will be helping out with my fraternity as the diversity and inclusivity chair this year, and so this term will have a focus on that as well. I'm excited to help out the best I can in my fraternity and make it better when I leave. Finally, I am going to focus on building up a club I helped started last year called Greek Intervarsity, which is a ministry for those in Greek life. I'm leading a bible study in my fraternity already, and hoping to expand to other houses soon!

I'm really looking forward to this term, not only since I will be writing full time, but also because it will allow me to dive deeper into different communities I am a part of on campus!
