Bio 

Hi everyone! I'm Julia from Seattle, WA. Reading this blog during my junior and senior years of high school helped me to envision myself on this campus, so this all feels very full-circle. I'm studying QSS and I'm looking forward to taking my French skills abroad next year in Toulouse and Paris. I love cooking/food, watching old Modern Family episodes (my favorite character is Mitch), and finding cozy places to study on campus (preferably in my PJ's). Talk to you soon!

What's a D-Plan?

      Favorite Class: QSS 15: Introduction to Data Analysis

      This class served as a great introduction to the Quantitative Social Science department. My favorite part of class was working with real-world data in our problem sets each week. I also adored my professor, Elsa Voytas. It was her first term as a professor here, and she was constantly eager to answer any questions you might have. I'm really looking forward to taking more QSS classes in the future!

      Favorite Class: EDU 47: Social, Emotional, and Moral Development

      I loved this class and especially my professor, Michele Tine. My favorite part of the course was watching the "Up!" documentary series as a class. The episodes began with a cohort of children at age 7, and has continued to follow them throughout their adulthood. We got to analyze the children's decisions and lifestyles in the context of what we were learning about, culminating with a paper highlighting one of the cohort members.

    My friends, Jordan (right) and Flora (left), pose with Jordan’s acceptance letter for the Spanish Language Study Abroad (LSA+) in Barcelona, Spain. Even more exciting, Flora will be studying abroad with Jordan! I am really looking forward to visiting them on my French LSA+ in Toulouse, France.

    A crowd of people are sitting on the Green with their heads tilted towards the sky. The sky is dim. You can see campus buildings in the far back.

    Dartmouth happened to be in the path of the solar eclipse! I’d never seen so many people on the Green! The Rockefeller Center and Dartmouth Student Government handed out eclipse glasses for everyone to watch. It was really special to see everyone so excited by this natural phenomenon.

    My godsister, Nina, came to Hanover for Dimensions of Dartmouth (prospective student weekend). Nina encompasses home for me, so it was really sweet to show her around before she made her final college decision. (Spoiler alert: she committed!)

    My friend, Willa, and I took a field trip to the Hanover Co-Op to get some groceries for a Dartmouth Outing Club (DOC) dinner. Each week, different DOC subclubs host “feeds” for members to cook and enjoy a home cooked meal together. I attended a few feeds during fall term, but I really stepped up my attendance in the spring!

    June 6, 2024

    A crowded dinner table with a candle-style light fixture overhead. Three people stand in the far left corner, and everyone else at the table is cheering for them.

    I’ll make a longer post about senior week soon, but here’s a quick snapshot for now! This dinner was awesome—it was the first time my family got to meet the families of my sister’s friends, with love surrounding the table. My heart was so full.
