Blockbuster Weekend at the Nugget Theater
Much like the rest of the world, Hanover has also been hit by the Barbenheimer craze; it was a huge weekend for cinemas across the world, and the Nugget Theater in Hanover was not different. This weekend, I commemorated the premiere of this summer's blockbusters: Barbie and Oppenheimer.
The Nugget Theater in Hanover is located along Main Street and is a really close walk from the center of campus. This Saturday, I went to the Nugget Theater in Hanover to watch Oppenheimer with some friends. As in any small town, it was great to see many familiar faces in the audience. After the movie, I walked over to the ice cream shop "Scoops" next door to enjoy some ice cream. Hanover Scoops is only open during the warmer months of the year, so I always seize any opportunity I have to enjoy their ice cream. On this occasion, I tried their Almonds and Joy flavor which was incredible.
Later that night, Dartmouth's student organization, Programming Board, was hosting a free showing of Barbie at Nugget Theater for students. PB rented out two rooms to feature Barbie and offered free drinks and popcorn to attendees. After having watched Oppenheimer, I knew I needed to go watch Barbie too, so I made plans with some of my friends and headed over to the theater once again. Even though there was a huge line of students outside of the movie theater trying to partake in PB's event, there were still many open seats left in the theater. It was awesome to be able to watch the movie alongside other Dartmouth students and be able to chuckle and giggle alongside them.
As a Dartmouth student, I love to go to the Nugget Theater. It gives me a sense of nostalgia since the building has been in Hanover for more than 100 years as it was founded in February of 1916. The movie rooms inside are the smallest I've ever seen, which makes it really cozy and the perfect place to randomly encounter other students and friendly faces.
