Hiking the Upper Valley
1. Holts Ledge
Holts Ledge is a hike to the top of the Dartmouth skiway. You can either take the Appalachian Trail up to the top, or hike straight up the ski slope! Just 20 minutes away from Hanover, it's a true Dartmouth classic. I've hiked it twice this term -- once with my friends and another time with my sorority.
2. Mount Cube
I hiked Mount Cube for the first time this weekend. It's about 30 minutes away on the way to Mount Moosilauke, just past Orford NH. The hike clocks in at about 6.6 miles to and back along the Appalachian Trail.
2. Mount Cardigan
Just 30 minutes away from Hanover towards Canaan, Cardigan is the perfect short hike with all the views of a longer option. It's my personal favorite, and I love topping it off with a visit to the Red Wagon Bakery in Canaan.
4. Gile Mountain
While barely constituting a hike, a list of hikes in the Upper Valley would be remiss without Gile. Just a 15 minute drive from Hanover in the direction of Norwich, Gile is a 15 minute walk to and up a firetower. The 360 views are spectacular. Since it's so close to Hanover, it's always fun to hike Gile with student groups -- my dance team has done it multiple times!
