Winter Term

Winter term has been the only Dartmouth term I have been on every year. The first year was freshman year, and the second year during the pandemic had me on campus since '23s had priority. This winter, I switched my off-term so I would be taking classes. This term has had a lot of hectic events. The Omicron variant spread quickly throughout campus, with hundreds of students testing positive. This lead to multiple close calls, with endless trips to get tested after my friends tested positive.

However, there was another sort of hecticness, and it was more positive. My fraternity had a winter rush, so I was able to participate in welcoming the new members to our house. I have loved getting to know them, as well as last term's rushees, as I was studying abroad. Every time there is a house rush, it feels like there is new life in the house, and it creates new dynamics. I have liked getting meals with the new members, or just hanging out in Collis with them, and seeing them around campus.

Taking classes in person has been an adjustment for me. For the majority of the past two years, my classes were online, but now I have to wake up, get ready for class, eat and walk across campus, oftentimes in the cold. However, I wouldn't change it. I love being able to talk with the professors before and after class, as well as see my classmates in person. Even with the masks, I have met new people, and have better interacted with the class materials.

But now we get to the end of the term. In a couple of days, the campus is going to go silent, with only a couple of students staying in the area for spring break (including me). The period of rest will be a time of reflection; reflecting over all my experiences this term, and how I have grown as a person and scholar here.

Winter term has been amazing, filled with a homecoming to the school I cherish. But now, I'm excited for the warmth of spring, along with taking a break from classes and hopefully doing a fellowship! Until next term!
