Q:

What's something you wish you knew about Dartmouth before attending?

A: Tulio smiling with Dartmouth sweatshirt

Coming to Dartmouth I did not realize how prominent Greek life is on campus. I had heard little about it when I applied and did not think I was going to be involved with it as a first-year (first-years cannot rush and wait until sophomore fall to rush). None of my family went to schools with Greek life, so I did not have any perception of what it would be like when I arrived. However, I did not know that about 60 percent of eligible students are affiliated here. Not only that, there are many non-Greek life events that are held in Greek spaces, such as acapella concerts and dance groups who perform. So Greek life has a big place at Dartmouth. The reason I wish that I knew about it before I applied was so I could gain a better picture of what Dartmouth's culture is like. And the reason I write about it is for prospective students to gain a fuller picture of what Dartmouth is like. Now, I say this as a student who is affiliated, and who is thankful for his experiences in Greek life and for the people I have met through it. But I know that is not always the case for people. I also know that not everyone is okay with applying to a school with a large Greek life. And that's okay! I want prospective students to make the right decision for themselves, and to have all the information when they make that decision. Of course, I might be a little biased and say Dartmouth is the best, but I think it is important that you find a school that you feel is your school and can be your home like Dartmouth is for me.
