Standardized Testing
- Dartmouth College is test optional for the Class of 2025.
- Read the Ivy League's August 13 update to standardized testing requirements for prospective student-athletes.
Testing is required, but it isn't the ultimate factor in evaluating an application. We look at every applicant in the context of available opportunities and efforts. Testing, in conjunction with your academic record and recommendations, helps us better understand your academic preparation.
Required Testing
If you submit scores from both the SAT and ACT, we will look at your highest equivalent score. For the SAT, we take the highest section scores, regardless of the test dates. For the ACT, we take your highest single composite score (we do not superscore the ACT).
International Students Only:
- If your first language is not English and your school curriculum is not delivered in English, we require you to submit an English proficiency exam score from the TOEFL, IELTS, Duolingo, or Cambridge C1/C2.
-
In addition to the English Language Proficiency details above, we will accept online results from the TOEFL and IELTS examinations from applicants for the Class of 2025 in order to be more flexible for international applicants during the COVID-19 pandemic: TOEFL iBT Special Home Edition, TOEFL IPT Plus for China, IELTS Indicator.
Optional Testing
You are welcome to submit SAT Subject Test scores to illustrate your academic strengths. Not submitting scores will not prevent your candidacy from receiving a full review by the Admissions Committee. If you submit subject test scores, we will include them in our review of your application.
