Favorite Class: Introduction to Biological AnthropologyTaking this class was a random and unexpected decision that I am so happy I made. This class was about the intersection between human and primate evolution and our social behaviors. It really opened my eyes to how unique and beautifully diverse different societies are, and how this uniqueness influences our biology in interesting ways.

Favorite Class: Essential Mathematics for Economic AnalysisTaught by Professor Doyle, this has been my favorite class at Dartmouth so far. It was a calculus integrated with economic applications of the concepts we learned. It was the first time this class was offered at Dartmouth, and Professor Doyle made sure we all had a thorough understanding of the material. The fact that we were also able to see the real-world applications of the calculus concepts also made the class uniquely interesting.

Favorite Class: Paris in the 19th CenturyI took this class to fulfill Dartmouth's first-year seminar requirement. In selecting a first-year seminar class, I sought out a department that I would not have taken a class in otherwise. It was an incredibly fulfilling experience and I learnt so much about Parisian Impressionist painters in the late 19th century like Monet, Manet, Degas, Morisot and Renoir. It also taught me about the political, social and economic conditions that typically inspire pivotal art movements.
SummerWashington D.C.
This summer, I interned at the International Finance Corporation in DC, through the Rockefeller Center's First-Year Fellows program which gives first-year students the opportunity to engage in public policy early in their Dartmouth careers. I lived with about twenty other members of Dartmouth's Class of 2025 and got to experience life in a vibrant city while gaining professional work experience.

Favorite Class: Globalization and the African ContinentI spent this term in Accra, Ghana for the African and African American Studies department's Foreign Study Program (FSP). I'm so glad I was able to take advantage of one of Dartmouth's study-abroad programs. During this FSP, I got to explore a new country and city while taking classes taught by the amazing professors at the University of Ghana.

After being away from campus for six months, I decided to start working towards fulfilling my distributive requirements. To fulfill my ART distrib, I took a Russian film class with a friend. It was an amazing experience and a testament to the ways a liberal arts education encourages you to approach each class through an interdisciplinary lens. For my final essay in this class, I explored the ways that government and political culture affect the nature of the film industry in different countries.

Favorite Class: International TradeThis class is one of the prerequisites for the international economics track's culminating experience. Dartmouth's economics major allows you to focus on a specific field that you're interested in, while also having the opportunity to take a couple of classes in other fields. Before taking this class, I had always been interested in international economics and this class definitely cemented my interests in the field.

Favorite Class: Economics ResearchI used my sophomore summer off term to conduct research with the economics department through the Dartmouth Economics Research Scholars and with the funding of the James O. Freedman Presidential Scholarship. My research project, which was mentored and advised by a faculty member, focused on the effects of European Union climate policy on the economy of my home country, Nigeria. It gave me the opportunity to apply and better understand several concepts I learnt in economics classes at Dartmouth.

Favorite Class: Gender Identities and Politics in AfricaThis was the most enjoyable and impactful class I have ever taken at Dartmouth! Each assigned reading and class discussion was more enthralling and thought-provoking than the last. This class taught me how to think outside the box, write academic articles in the field of the humanities and how to intellectualise and synthesise my own lived experiences in a way that contributes meaningfully to existing literature in African Studies. Lastly, it taught me to think critically about pressing social issues within the African continent.
On-Campus Jobs at Dartmouth
Some of my favorite activities I've done this term are my on-campus jobs. It's a great way to earn some money while taking classes and getting the opportunity to meet new people you otherwise might not have met.
A Fun October Weekend
This weekend was one of my busiest and most fun weekends at Dartmouth so far! As I decompress from the whirlwind the past few days have been, I can't help but share my favorite moments from this amazing weekend:
- No. 1
Halloween in Hanover:
This was my first time ever celebrating Halloween! Even though the end of October can be a stressful time in the term as most students are taking midterms in various classes, the campus still had an indescribable atmosphere of excitement for Halloween. The dining hall was AMAZINGLY decorated with Halloween-themed meals. Everyone from students to Dartmouth Dining Services staff as well as the staff at the Covid testing center was wearing a costume. There were trivia games, game nights, concerts, dance parties and movie nights all weekend organized by various campus organizations.

Boston For the Day:
My friends and I took the Dartmouth Coach down to Boston to watch the football game. Getting to Boston from Hanover is super convenient! The Dartmouth Coach is a bus service that connects Dartmouth to Boston and New York City. It leaves from just in front of the Hopkins Center for the Arts, so it’s conveniently located right at the center of campus. When we got to Boston, we did some sight-seeing and had brunch together. It was exciting leaving campus and getting back into the bustle of city life, but it also really made me appreciate the calmness of Hanover.

Harvard vs Dartmouth Football Game:
I had never watched American football before coming to Dartmouth, so this was the second football game I ever attended and this time around I was quite determined to actually understand the game. So, the night before I left for Boston, I googled the basic rules of football and basically tried to familiarize myself with the general concept of the game. It totally paid off! I had such a fun time, and I can’t wait for the next game!
One of the best things about Dartmouth is that there is always some fun activity to look forward to. It might look like some random small town in the middle of the woods, but it’s really a community of people who love being here and make the best out of their time here.
First-Year International Experiences
Moving to another country for college can be a really daunting experience, but it's really important and helpful to know that there are tons of people in the Dartmouth community who are incredibly willing and enthusiastic to help you.
Coming Home
Homecoming is one of Dartmouth's most unique and longstanding traditions.

The Bonfire
The homecoming bonfire on the green was one of the first traditions I heard about when I started my college search in the summer of 2019. It’s so surreal to think that I finally got to experience it in-person for the first time! During the bonfire, the entire class does at least one lap around the bonfire, with upperclassmen and alumni surrounding it. One thing you might not notice from pictures of the bonfire is that there are large rectangular wooden boards built into it. On the days leading up to the bonfire, the boards are laid out for students to come sign their names on them. Knowing that your name is a part of the bonfire and being surrounded by older students and alumni really makes you feel a deep connection to the Dartmouth community.

Meeting Alumni
Dartmouth welcomes so many alumni back home each year for Homecoming weekend. It was so amazing meeting and talking with alumni who were at Dartmouth as far back as the 70s. Even after being away for several years if not decades, you can tell that they feel very much connected to the school and thoroughly enjoyed their time here. The Classes of 1970 and 1971 actually celebrated their 50-year anniversaries this year and so many members of the class who were on the school's football team were so excited to watch the traditional Homecoming football game.

The Football Game
I got to watch my first American football game this weekend. So many Dartmouth students, alumni, friends and family came to support our football team in their homecoming game against yale. Being surrounded by my friends and other Dartmouth students cheering on our team was awesome! Although I’m not sure I entirely understand the game just yet, it was an such an exciting experience, and I’m definitely looking forward to going to more games!
My First Fall!
I can't believe October is here already! This weekend, I went with other members of Great Issues Scholars to Riverview Farm, the perfect place to spend one of the first few days of fall.
An Unconventional First-Year Trip
First year trips is Dartmouth's student-led pre-orientation program that introduces incoming students to the college's amazing community. The DOC offers tons of options to suit anyone's preferences; I did the Museum Exploration Trip.
