An informational tabling event at Collis Student Center at Dartmouth

If you've read my blogs in the past, you know that one of my favorite things about Dartmouth is the wide range and variety of study abroad programs available for students. During my freshman summer, I did a language study abroad program for Arabic in Rabat, Morocco; and in my sophomore spring, I did an internship program at the American University of Kuwait in Salmiya, Kuwait. On campus, I've been involved in helping inform and support other students considering those programs by sharing my experiences with them. This is a testament to Dartmouth's dedication to effectively prepare students for studying abroad and ensuring that these programs continue to be sustained over time.

Furthermore, earlier in the term, I helped run a table at an extracurricular event related to the American University of Kuwait internship. At Collis, the student center on campus, the space is often used to promote different student groups, programs, and events. Since I was helping run the table, I was helping answer people's questions about the program and tell them about my experience. Additionally, since the program is pretty small, my contact information is frequently given out to interested students so that I can share my experiences with them one-on-one. Since I still keep in touch with my friends from Kuwait, I give them a heads up when other Dartmouth students will be studying there so that they can meet each other. Having the institutional support of Dartmouth to share my experience with other students and help them have a great time in Kuwait is very rewarding; it was definitely my favorite term at Dartmouth, so having the opportunity to share that experience with others is incredible.

After doing the Arabic language study abroad program in Morocco my freshman summer, I have encouraged each year's new classes of freshmen to learn more about the program. Just last week, I went to a dinner hosted by the Arabic department for students interested in the program and spoke about my experiences, answering all of their questions in the process. In addition, as an Arabic drill instructor, I frequently receive questions from freshmen in my class about the program, and love to tell them stories about my time in Morocco. Since I saw these study-abroad opportunities as incredibly formative and impactful, it is a pleasure to encourage others to pursue them as well.

When applying to Dartmouth, study-abroad programs were actually one of my top priorities—after having the chance to study abroad on two occasions, I can say that all my expectations for studying abroad at Dartmouth were completely fulfilled and exceeded!
