Sophomore Summer in Toledo
My sophomore summer interning near Toledo, Ohio and what I did to keep myself occupied!

Baseball Game
Me and fellow interns at First Solar were enrolled in “Summer in the City”, a program that connects and organizes events for all interns in the area. All events are free for the interns! I attended my first baseball game ever in June, with my entire team. It was great to finally see a sport I’ve heard so much about in movies but never seen in real life. I ended up chatting with my coworkers more than watching the game, and it was a great time!

River Cruise
My office is close to the river by Toledo, where we got a tour by boat through Summer in the City! The boat took us through all the important landmarks of the small city, while we had pizza and drinks. It was a great opportunity to socialise with other interns and explore the city I’m living in for the summer! My favourite part of the tour was the 28 silos mural, an enormous painting honouring the Indigenous communities.

Cooking!
Living on my own for the first time in my life has been enlightening, particularly about my cooking skills. I would say I can manage fairly well on my own now, after weeks of experimenting. I am particularly proud to say that I can now cook Sri Lankan curries with ease! Nothing reminds me more of home than some home style food and drinks.

Walks
Since my time in Berlin, I have discovered the tranquility of taking walks. Some days I walk around downtown Toledo and visit a restaurant. There isn’t much to see, but I enjoy the little trips outside my apartment. On Saturdays, I walk to the Farmers Market where there are fresh fruits and vegetables! It has a great atmosphere and I really enjoy seeing all the local vendors and people around. This past week, there was even a Jeep festival, where the parking lots were filled with all kind of Jeeps decorated in so many different ways.
