Class in Review: COGS 1

Welcome back to the series where I review all of my classes in depth! For this week's course, I will be discussing COGS 1, also known as Introduction to Cognitive Science. This class serves as the prerequisite to the Cognitive Science major, and fulfills the Social Analysis distributive requirement. This class is only offered in the Fall, so if you are interested in the major, take it as soon as you can!
I took this class with Professor Frankland and Professor Phillips, both Assistant Professors at Dartmouth. This class was quite large, with approximately 70 people in it. With regards to the actual class structure, it consisted mainly of lectures regarding all things cognitive science, ranging from topics in philosophy to psychology to linguistics. The professors are truly incredible lecturers, and they made this class so interesting and entertaining because of the ways in which they talked about these topics. There were also a lot of interactive activities we did in class, which helped us understand the content further. Although at times the topics could be challenging to grasp, they hosted many office hours to ask further questions, which was super helpful!

In terms of assignments in this class, we had daily readings, a few in-class quizzes, two projects, and one midterm and a final. You had a lot of freedom to pursue the various topics discussed in this class, especially through the projects, which I really appreciated. There were also extra credit opportunities throughout the class which were a ton of fun to complete! Overall, this class was incredibly interesting and very interdisciplinary, which made it fast-paced yet pretty manageable.

That's it for now, I will talk to you soon!
