I will enroll in the fall. Do I need to do anything over the summer?

General Financial Aid

Yes - the Financial Aid Office will ask that you complete the First Year Adjustment Survey and the Scholarship Matching Survey over the summer. Communications regarding these surveys will be sent to you via email, and you will access the surveys through your pre-arrival portal.

Here are a few other frequently asked questions that you may find helpful at this time:

I have been approved for a health insurance waiver. Will my financial aid change?
Yes, your financial aid offer will be adjusted to remove the health insurance scholarship if you are not purchasing the Dartmouth Student Group Health Program.  The cost of the health insurance will remain in the total cost of attendance, but you will not be billed for the health insurance plan.

An outside scholarship was sent to me directly.  Do I need to report this?
Yes, all outside resources need to be reported.

I have completed my survey but need to change my answers or report new outside scholarships.

Simply email us at financial.aid@dartmouth.edu. We are happy to accept updates and changes.

My outside scholarships will not arrive before the bill is due - what should I do?

A form called the Payment Explanation form is available to complete - this is found within your DPay account. Completing the form will alert Campus Billing that you expect outside resources to cover all or a portion of your balance.

How do I purchase a computer?

Dartmouth includes the cost of a computer ($1,700) in your total cost of attendance. This cost may be covered by a student loan, or your outside scholarship, if applicable. All forms of aid will be disbursed directly to your student account to reduce any balance due. After any balance is covered, excess funds can be taken as a refund. You may use your refund to purchase a computer, or you may have the computer billed to your student account directly, through the Dartmouth Computer Store. Please note that refunds are not available until the term begins.  If you do not need to purchase a computer, you may still use the associated loan or outside scholarship to cover your other educational expenses.

If you are borrowing student loans, please complete the following:

Federal Direct Loans: Complete the Master Promissory Note and Entrance Counseling at studentaid.gov.

Institutional Loans (DEA, Class of 1884, Dartmouth Student Loan): Complete the Promissory Note through ECSI.  Instructions will be emailed to your Dartmouth email address - please watch for it, these emails may go to your spam/junk folders.

If you have any questions regarding your loans, or loan options, please contact the Financial Aid Office.
