Allen house riverview farm trip

This weekend, thanks to Allen House (one of six residential housing communities at Dartmouth), I had the chance to kick off the fall season with a perfect New England outing to Riverview Farm. Nestled along the Connecticut River, the farm couldn't have been more picturesque. With rolling hills, vibrant fall colors, and clear blue skies, it felt like we stepped right into an autumn postcard. We spent the afternoon wandering through the apple orchards, picking fruit straight from the trees and enjoying the sunlit raspberry patches, where the berries were perfectly ripe and ready to be plucked. The farm had pumpkins scattered throughout the fields, which added to the cozy fall vibes, and a corn maze that was too tempting not to explore.

After our time at Riverview, we made a short trip up the road to Mac's Maple for some much-needed treats. Their "Maple Creemee" (soft serve ice cream) was hands down the highlight of the afternoon, but the maple cotton candy and kettle corn were also worth every bite. Spending a couple of hours away from campus in the fresh fall air was the perfect reset, and Allen House covered all the expenses!

Since moving out of my first-year dorms into Triangle House (read about that experience here), I've missed seeing friends from Allen House as often, so this trip was the perfect way to reconnect. Sharing this fall tradition—picking fruit, enjoying sweet treats, and soaking in the stunning landscape—made for such a memorable afternoon. It was a great reminder of the close-knit Allen House community, even as we all branch out across campus. If fall trips like this one are any sign of what's ahead, I can't wait for what the rest of the season holds!

Dartmouth's Housing Communities, like Allen House, are designed to foster exactly these kinds of experiences—offering a sense of belonging and connection throughout your time on campus. Every student is assigned to one of six Housing Communities, providing a smaller, supportive network within the larger Dartmouth community. From events like our Riverview Farm trip to dinners at your House Professor's residence, each House creates opportunities for students to engage with faculty and peers in both casual and meaningful ways. Being part of a Housing Community adds something special to the Dartmouth experience, offering both academic and social support while giving you the freedom to get involved at your own pace.
