Advice for Incoming First-Years!
Entering college for the first time is undeniably a nerve wracking yet exciting experience. Since I have successfully completed my first year here at Dartmouth, I thought I could offer some advice for everyone coming to Dartmouth for the very first time!
To start, it is so important to take advantage of all of the orientation opportunities. Whether it is the open houses for the academic departments or the nightly smores where you can meet your fellow classmates, everything offered is super useful and really helps you get used to the Dartmouth environment. Although there are some required aspects of the orientation program, there is definitely a lot of free time that allows you to explore campus and do things at your own pace!

Next, and I have said this before as well, is to take classes during fall term that genuinely interest you. Do not necessarily take ones that you think are easy or ones that are simply tailored for your major. Note that I do not mean this for all three classes; try to take at least one that is not something you have learned before! For example, I took Introductory Linguistics my fall term because I have never learned about it, and it inspired me to major in cognitive science! This is one of the biggest pieces of advice I would give.
And finally, I would urge everyone to get to know their floormates and overall residential hall as soon as possible! It is so nice to have a community within your dorm if you just want to stay there for the night or looking for something fun and chill to do. During move-in, I would highly recommend saying hello to everyone around you just to start the connection, because it truly changed my relationship with my floor and we became so close!

This list is not exhaustive, but I hope that this advice can help make the transition to college even easier!
