An Updated List of Places In Hanover Where I Like To Study
If I stumble upon my friends at any time of day on campus, chances are they're studying for a midterm, grinding out a problem set, or writing out the last paragraph of an essay that was due five minutes ago. All of this to say, Dartmouth students study a lot. And for us, not only how but where we study plays a big role in how productive that grind session is.
Here are my five favorite places to study, both on campus and in town:
1. 3FB (3rd Floor Berry): This is the third floor of the main library on campus, Berry. More often than not, you'll find a lot of focused faces and hear a lot of keyboards intensely clacking. But 3FB is a silent space, meaning it's a great place to lock in, especially if you're in the middle of finals season (like I am right now).
2. The Works Cafe: The Works is a new coffee shop chain that's opened up in town, and a lot of Dartmouth students, including myself, have great things to say about it. The vibes are really nice, and I like going there with friends after classes if I have some work to finish. Their coffee's the best I've had in Hanover, and their salads are also nice. Check it out if you ever visit!
3. The Onion: I'd written an article a few months ago about the housing system at Dartmouth, and you can find that on my profile! The Onion is South House's community space (each housing cluster has a community space assigned to it). The Onion always has a relaxed vibe, there are beanbags, places to sit and gives you the ability to talk with friends while working.
4. Collis Patio: Collis is a student center right next to the Green. It's where I like to get protein smoothies and pasta, and there's a really big patio outside that overlooks the Green. When it's sunny outside (which we're seeing a lot of this spring), I like to sit with my friends and eat while working. It's also a great people-watching spot!
5. Novack Cafe: Novack is the on-campus coffee shop that serves Starbucks in Berry Library. There's a large seating area where students often sit and drink coffee. Novack's often really crowded and full of people, but I find that I do some of my best work there. This especially holds true if I'm sitting on a high-top looking out at campus through the ceiling-to-floor windows.
These are my new favorite study places at Dartmouth. Only one (3FB) has remained the same since I last wrote about this in December 2022. Crazy how things change!
