First Week of Sophomore Year in Review
It is so hard to believe, but I am officially now a sophomore here at Dartmouth! Time has completely flown and it seems like just yesterday that I moved in for my first year. Let me give you a run down of how my first week went!
Monday: On Monday, I had all three of my classes. My first, COSC 1 (Introduction to Programming and Computation), was from 8:50 to 9:55. Although I was not looking forward to an early start, I have actually found that it has made me more productive throughout the day. This class teaches you all about programming in Python, and serves as a prerequisite for the Quantitative Social Science (QSS) major and a core class for the Cognitive Science major. Next, I had COGS 1 (Introduction to Cognitive Science), which was from 10:10 to 11:15. This course is all about introducing you to the subject of cognitive science, which is the interdisciplinary study of cognition deriving from several fields such as linguistics, computer science, psychology, and philosophy. And finally, I had PSYC 6 (Introduction to Neuroscience), from 2:10 to 3:15. Yet another introductory class, this focuses on the topic of neuroscience. After a long day of classes, I met up with friends that I have not seen for months, played spikeball on the Green, and took pictures for the first day of class!

Tuesday: I had no classes today, which allowed me to sleep in and relax in the morning. Besides getting some work done, I had a few meetings throughout the day for some clubs I am involved in. Other than that, it was a pretty uneventful day!
Wednesday: Yet again, I had all three of my classes. We started to learn content in all of them, and I can already say that these might be some of my favorite courses I have taken. I am already so invested in the material, and I cannot wait to see what else I learn throughout the next 10 weeks. For example, in PSYC 6, we started to talk about the structure of the brain itself (ranging from blood vessels to the locations of different lobes). After class, I got a lot of work done and played a good amount of games of spikeball on the Green (I am an avid spikeball player if you cannot tell).
Thursday: Although I had no classes, it was an extremely busy day. It is very typical to have a lot of meetings at the beginning of the term for clubs, and today was the day where I had many! In addition, the job fair took place at the Hanover Inn (highly recommend going, even for just a little bit)! It was great to see so many companies and they seemed eager to tell us about what they do. Later that night, I went to watch a movie at The Hop for the Telluride Film Festival. The new Hop is absolutely beautiful, and it was amazing to immerse myself in the arts so early on in the term.
Friday: Yet again, I had my three classes today. We continued to learn more content, which made me even more excited for these courses. In PSYC 6, we had a professor come in to show us the brain in-depth, which was super cool! After classes, it was time for Fallapalooza (organized by the Programming Board)! This event is a tradition at Dartmouth where an artist comes and performs on the first Friday of the term. This year, we had Dayglow, and he was incredible! I absolutely love this tradition because it really brings the whole campus together to celebrate an amazing start to the school year.
