Recap of my First Fall Term!
I've officially finished my first quarter of college, and it was amazing! From classes and clubs to school events, I was very busy, but everything was so much fun!
I really enjoyed my courses this term. They were:
My history class covered modern American history and posed the question, "Is America an empire?" This class was a favorite of mine! We had really awesome in-class discussions and I learned so much about American history.
My next class was Gov 3: The American Political System. As a prospective Government major, I was super excited to take a government class, and it did not disappoint! The content was interesting; we had several guest speakers come in and talk to us. A few were even Dartmouth alums, which made it even cooler meeting them.
My last class was Global Humanities 1, which fulfills the first-year writing requirement. In this class, we read books, studied paintings, and watched films, all while discussing the overarching theme of inequalities. This class was a great way to develop my writing skills and meet other first-year students.
Besides classes, I was involved in several clubs throughout the term, including the Class of 2028 and the Winter Carnival Council. Class of 2028 is a group that plans class events. This term, we organized a Bonfire Karaoke and handed out Halloween candy grams, just to name a few events.
In the Winter Carnival Council, we are planning the "Winter Carnival," a weekend-long celebration of winter and all things cold in the Upper Valley! We just picked a theme, and we are starting to plan events and decorations. I am so excited to see the finished product this winter term!
I was also very involved in political campaigns this term. Through the student-led organizations Let Us Lead and Democratic Youth Consulting, I was able to work on a state house campaign this fall. In this role, I helped research policy, write speeches, and create media. I also phonebanked and canvassed a lot! This activity was so rewarding, and I cannot wait to do more with these organizations in the future.
I spent my remaining free time going to school events and hanging out with my new friends! Most clubs on campus host amazing events and I went to plenty of them; I attended concerts, bingo nights (I won the complete series of The Sopranos on DVD one time), and trivia nights. I even went to a "Poker Night," hosted by Collis After Dark, a student-led organization through the Collis Center for Student Involvement. Here I played blackjack for the first time!
All of these events were so much fun and a great way to unwind after a busy week with schoolwork and clubs.
My fall quarter was so much fun and it was only my first 10 weeks on campus! I am so excited for my next term and all the new memories I will make!
