Class in Review: Spanish 9
Welcome back to my series where I review each of my classes in depth! This week's course is Spanish 9, also known as Culture and Conversation: Advanced Spanish Language. This class can count towards a Spanish major/minor, or even an international studies minor which I am thinking of pursuing! Additionally, Spanish 9 fulfills the language requirement here at Dartmouth, so it was nice to get that done before the end of my first year.
I took this class with Professor Rieumont, a professor of Spanish and Portuguese. As a quite small class with about 15 students, our mainly discussion-based class allowed everyone to develop their Spanish speaking abilities, which was incredibly helpful. In terms of assignments, we had daily homeworks, 5 take-home quizzes, 4 writing assignments, a non-graded mini presentation, and a final project where we created a script that recounted the story of a historical figure; these assignments were so much fun and really contributed to my growth as a Spanish speaker and writer.

Beyond just the assignments itself, this class was simply incredible. Because of the small size, we got to know each other very well, which made it super tight-knit. We would sit outside for some of the classes when it was nice out, we would get lunch on The Green outside of class, and we even had a party at the end of the term. I think this class is a representation of how close the community is at Dartmouth and how everyone thrives around everyone else.
All in all, this class was not super strenuous and it really helped me develop my Spanish skills, which I am eternally grateful for. Stay tuned for the next class review!
