Welcome back to my series! This week's course is Ling 1, also known as Introductory Linguistics. This class can count towards many things: the Linguistics major/minor, the Cognitive Science major, or even a social science requirement of some majors (including QSS). In terms of distributive requirements, Ling 1 fulfills the QDS (Quantitative or Deductive Science) distribution, which is really nice if you are not looking for a super intense mathematics course.

I took this class with Professor Pulju, a Senior Lecturer in Linguistics and Classics. This class was medium-sized, with about 30 people in it. In terms of the actual class structure, it was mainly lectures with a few discussions about the actual content we were learning about. Professor Pulju is such an amazing lecturer, and makes the class super engaging which I absolutely love! He is always asking the class about the content we are learning, which helps us understand the content even more!

A day in class!

In terms of the assignments in this class, we had 9 homeworks, 5 quizzes, 2 midterms, and a final. They were pretty spread out, which made it much less stressful. Beyond these assignments, I absolutely adored this class. It was incredibly interesting and really relied on deductive reasoning, which is something that I am good at. I would have never guessed that a linguistics class would be something that I loved, but this has been one of my favorite classes I have taken here so far. It is not terribly hard, and as long as you pay attention in class and attend office hours, it should be fairly simple overall!

All in all, this class is certainly not the easiest, but with good management, it can be pretty straightforward. That is it for this class, I will see you soon!
