My Last Classes at Dartmouth!
I can't believe that my senior spring is already here, and I'm taking the last classes of my undergraduate experience! In this post, I want to share the classes I'm taking this spring, and how they're helping me fulfill my graduation requirements ahead of graduation this June.
To complete my double major in Anthropology and Middle Eastern Studies, I still need two credits for my Anthropology major. In addition, I need one more distributive requirement in Technology or Applied Science (TAS). Thus, every class I am taking this term is contributing to my graduation requirements.
One of the anthropology classes I'm taking this term is ANTH73: Main Currents in Anthropology – it's a small senior seminar class with about 16 students. The class is a general survey of current discussions and debates in the field of anthropology, and we are also considering the role of creative writing in anthropological work. The class will be a great opportunity to synthesize a lot of the knowledge I have acquired in my Anthropology courses during my time at Dartmouth, and I am excited for the opportunity to do so.
Another Anthropology class I'm taking is the ANTH50.62: Archaeology of Work. At Dartmouth, the Anthropology major requires students to take at least one course in cultural Anthropology, biological Anthropology, and archaeology – therefore, this course serves as my archaeology credit for the major. The class explores the development of human labor over time, and investigates what 'work' really means across time and space in the human context. Gaining some experience in archaeology will be lots of fun, and I am eager to see how it compares to my other coursework in anthropology.
Finally, my last class, GEOG55: Critical Analysis in Geographical Information Systems, fulfills my TAS requirement for graduation. The class is within the Geography department, and we are using the programming language R to investigate geographical information systems, which are the systems used in things like location and GPS technology. Since I have not taken many coding classes at Dartmouth or otherwise, the course will allow me to get out of my comfort zone while fulfilling an important requirement for graduation.
Since it is my last term at Dartmouth, I want to make the most of these classes and experiences before it is time to graduate. I am excited to share my experiences in these courses throughout the term – keep an eye on my blog for updates throughout the spring term!
