A large fire is in the center of the photo with a dark night and people surrounding the fire.

Homecoming celebrations over my time at Dartmouth, and nearing my fourth, I want to share some of the events and traditions that make Dartmouth's Homecoming celebration so special and exciting.

One of the most iconic components of Homecoming Weekend is the Homecoming Bonfire. Each year, the new freshman class works together to construct a massive wooden pyramid-like structure on the center of campus, at the Dartmouth Green. On Friday night of Homecoming Weekend, the bonfire is lit. Upperclassmen, alumni, faculty, and community members form a huge crowd on the Green as the new class walks a lap around the fire. It's a visually stunning event, and I've never seen a bonfire close to as large as Dartmouth's. Before the bonfire, alumni, student groups, and sports teams participate in a massive parade to the Dartmouth Green, with the first-year class all the way at the end of the parade ready to walk around the bonfire. It's a really exciting time - last year it was raining during the bonfire and parade, but it made it feel even more hectic and exciting.

The Homecoming football game is also one of the most busy and exciting events of the weekend. On Saturday, students and alumni flood the bleachers at Memorial Field to cheer on Dartmouth's football team (which is 6-0 so far this season, by the way!). The football game is a great way to bring people together and enjoy Homecoming Saturday.

There are also tons of miscellaneous events going on throughout the weekend, such that there is something fun for everyone to do. There are class-specific alumni gatherings all around campus, where you can truly see how many alumni return to Dartmouth to celebrate Homecoming. There are also lots of academic lectures going on throughout the weekend open to the public. For example, this year there is a talk on the upcoming presidential election and the political implications of it. Tours to the top of the Baker Bell Tower on the center of campus are also given throughout the weekend, giving visitors and students an opportunity to see Dartmouth's campus from its highest and most central point.

Overall, Homecoming Weekend is one of the most exciting times on campus. I can't wait for the weekend, and I hope I was able to share some of the details that make this weekend as fun as it is!
