"What is funding like at Dartmouth?"

This is a very common question that I get on campus tours, and I always love answering this question because of all the resources Dartmouth offers to students!

Almost all jobs on campus are paid (including my job at the Hood Museum of Art, in the header photo); and with the Dartmouth minimum wage being $16.25 an hour, this allows students to make well above the national minimum wage. While there are some jobs on campus that are limited to work-studies for people on financial aid, most jobs are open to everyone, and students can choose the hours they work. Whether students want to work 5 hours a week or 40 hours a week during an off-term (when they are not taking classes), Dartmouth has plenty of job listings posted on JobX, our website for jobs. Furthermore, if you want to get involved with research, Dartmouth has part-time and full-time grants available. Thus, you can get published and get paid for it!

While some internships are paid (especially in the finance world), many internships are not paid (especially in the non-profit and health sector). Thus, Dartmouth has funding that students can apply for in many different fields! A new $15 million dollar donation to the Center for Professional Development supports over 300 internships for that center alone. The Tucker Center (religious center), Rockefeller Center (for public policy), Dartmouth Center for Social Impact (non-profit and volunteering center), Dickey Center (for international understanding), among others all offer at least $4,000 to students per term for internships.

Funding for research and internship grants are not contingent on whether or not you receive financial aid; this means that these resources are available for all students! Additionally, while positions at The Dartmouth student newspaper are not paid, the paper offers some need-based grants for students on financial aid.

Overall, in my opinion Dartmouth stands out from other schools given the extensive funding and paid opportunities it provides. Even when you are not taking classes, Dartmouth wants to support you in whatever endeavor you choose!
