This term, I decided to build on my already-existing interest in photography and take Photo I: The Intentional Photography. I am working with a Dartmouth-issued digital camera to explore the world around me, finding aesthetic merit in the unseen, and releasing the potential within the otherwise ordinary. At the risk of sounding self-absorbed, I will say that my approach to photography sometimes comes across as uncanny and grotesque. With this class, I hope to further develop my aesthetic perceptions by intentionally considering light, color, and what I want to say with my photography. We are almost halfway through the term as I write this blog post, and I believe my approach to photography already changed drastically. I am beyond grateful to have the opportunity to pursue my passion in the critical analysis of visual culture through photography at Dartmouth! To illustrate my engagement with this course, here are some of the photographs I have taken in the past five weeks I have been taking Photo I.
