Dear '28s, Welcome Home!
Dear '28s,
You have so much to look forward to! As I pen my final blog post as a graduating senior, I want to share what Dartmouth has meant to me and offer some advice for your exciting journey ahead.
Near or far, Dartmouth will always be my home. This small college is where I discovered new academic passions I never knew existed in high school, studied abroad (multiple times!) through the D-Plan, and conquered the 9+ mile Franconia Ridge with the Outing Club. I will miss the post-gym Collis breakfast sandwiches, the dark academia vibes of studying in the Tower Room, and the late-night Woccoms (walks around Occom Pond) with friends. I will miss spontaneously jumping into the Connecticut River before my 10s, sleeping on the sand dunes in the Namib Desert through the Environmental Studies Foreign Study Program, and learning to ski during my first Hanover winter. Most of all, I'll miss the people who have become like my second family in the woods of New Hampshire.
Dartmouth's "tight-knit community" is a phrase tossed around a lot, but what does it really mean? The people you will soon meet here will fuel you through late-night study sessions on 2FB as you brain-dump everything you know on the whiteboards before a final exam. They will cheer on your acapella concerts, dance shows, and sports games, filling the room with support and love.
So, '28s, you couldn't have chosen a better home! Embrace the unexpected, explore the outdoors, and don't hesitate to ask for support. From your First-Year Trip to gearing up for Senior Week as I am now, cherish every moment. Take the time to appreciate the small things: the intricacies of a snowflake as it falls onto your coat, trips to Late Night at FoCo with friends, and lounging out on the Green to soak up the sun while doing some readings for class.
I'm sure you'll leave this place knowing more about yourself and your place in the world. I am so glad I could meet and welcome some of you during April's two Dimensions of Dartmouth admitted students events. The best is yet to come.
Signing off,
Sydney '24
