Winter Term Goals
As someone who has mainly lived in warm climates throughout their entire life, it has been challenging to adapt to Hanover's chilly temperatures and snow-filled pathways. Nonetheless, I believe that it is important to set goals, especially during winter term when it is difficult to get out of bed and stay focused on your priorities. With a defined list of objectives, winter term will be less stressful.
- No. 1
Attending Most Office Hours
Last term, I would make the effort to attend a few office hours for Math 3 (Introduction to Calculus). However, I believe that I could have used this effort towards my other classes. This term, I will attend more meetings and office hour discussions with my professors and classmates. Due to my workload being vastly different from last term, I am aiming to expand my academic success and understand the content of all my classes better.
- No. 2
Join More Clubs
I am heavily involved in cheerleading, and it takes up a lot of my free time. However, I aim to join more clubs catered to other things I am passionate about. For example, as I am on the “pre-law” track, so I hope to be involved in the minority pre-law association and Dartmouth’s Law Journal.
- No. 3
Learn How to Ice Skate
After the ice skating rink opened on the Green (Dartmouth’s focal point of the campus in front of the Baker library), I have been intrigued by other ice skaters. A few of my friends have been ice skating for the intramural hockey team; and if I learned how to ice skate, I would be able to compete against them. Hopefully I will achieve this goal by the end of winter term!
- No. 4
Learn How to Ski
Another winter activity that I want to learn more about is skiing. Before this term, I barely saw snow, let alone a mountain covered in snow that people could ski and snowboard on. Dartmouth grants people the opportunity to take ski lessons, which may help me easily-adjust to the unfamiliar terrain.

Attend More Academic and Political Events
Every week, the Dartmouth Political Union and the Rockefeller center hosts events and keynote addresses surrounding political candidates and individuals working in the government. They are dedicated to promoting open-minded discussions. I have attended a few so far, including the event with U.S. Representative Jamie Raskin. I encourage everyone to attend these discussions or watch the livestreams online, as they are so enlightening.
These are my top 5 goals for winter term, and I hope I am able to achieve them! Stay tuned to hear more about my journey traversing through my second term at Dartmouth.
