My Thoughts On Junior Year
There's always a lot of excitement when a new year begins at Dartmouth: you're welcoming a new class of students and entering a new phase of your experience with your grade. My friends and I often catch ourselves in disbelief that we're more than halfway through our Dartmouth journey.
However, anticipating what's to come, I wrote down a list of things I'd like to walk away with from my upcoming junior year. I want to make my first (and second) student film. I'm in a filmmaking course this fall, the end goal of which is to produce my own short film, and I hope that inspires me to keep making. So far, I've had an excellent time planning, and it's been super exciting to see what more is to come. I've mentioned this before, but the film major at Dartmouth is a tight-knit community of people who are always collaborating and bettering each other's work, so it's a great environment in which to potentially thrive.
Secondly, I'm excited to have my own apartment. While I really enjoy dorm life and may go back to it later, I'm currently enjoying living off-campus in a student house. I also did something similar over the summer. While that was with 11 other roommates, I only have one this time around! Buying groceries, understanding fire alarms, and fixing door locks have definitely been maturing experiences for me, and I'm enjoying them so far!
I'm going to be off in the winter term because of the way the D-Plan operates (Side note: If you don't know what it is, the D-Plan refers to the flexibility Dartmouth gives students to consider when they want to take classes and when they want to take breaks to pursue either personal or professional interests). I have a whole post dedicated to it on my page, too! So, since I'm going to be off in the winter, I'd really like to make the most of the fall and spring by getting involved in the Dartmouth community and enjoying every day.
Lastly, and this is a common denominator across terms and years, I want to enter this year with an open mind, hoping that I meet really cool people, discover interesting classes, and cultivate my interests even further. So far, the weather's been great, and the year's looking up.
Keep checking back on this blog for a weekly update on how that promise is going. Admissions season is in full swing, so if you have any further questions, feel free to reach out to me.
