Los Angeles Diaries: Week 2!
My adventures around the great city of Los Angeles continue! In the second week of my domestic study program in Los Angeles, here's everything that I did. I definitely miss Hanover and everything it has to offer, but I'm having a great time in this urban setting!
Here's a rundown of 4 things that I did during my 2nd week here:
- Visited LACMA: The Los Angeles County Museum of Arts is a historic LA museum that hosts a gala once a year where everyone who's anyone in the world of art shows up. At the museum, we saw paintings from Matisse and other legendary artists from the 20th century, like Jay DeFeo and David Hockney. There was also an excellent exhibition on El Chavez Ravine—based on the works of Vincent Valdez and Ry Cooder. I saw some exciting stuff and ended the day with a meal at a legendary Chinese restaurant just a block down! A Friday well spent :)
- Got a personal tour around the Academy Museum: The Academy Museum is historic for many reasons—because of the various memorabilia that it hosts, as well as the fact that it's preparing (along with the entire city of Los Angeles) for the Oscars. One of my professors on the Domestic Study Program works at the Academy as a curator; she took us around John Waters: Pope of Trash, an exhibition based on the works of the legendary filmmaker John Waters, known for iconic films like Hairspray. It was enlightening and amazing.
- Started my internship!: One of the best things about the DSP is that you get to dip your toes in three aspects of cinema—the business, the academia, and the creative. This week, I started my experiences with the first; I'm working at a super cool production company in West Hollywood. With ample support from my peers and my professors, I'm excited to continue my professional journey and see where this path leads me!
- Ate so much good food: This seems like it's going to be a recurring one throughout my time in Los Angeles, but nonetheless, if nothing else entices you to apply for this program, let this be the reason: the food in LA is spectacular. I've sampled everything from some great Italian to even better Mexican and great pub-style burgers. I can't lie and say I don't miss my occasional run to Molly's or Han Fusion with my friends, but for now, I'm really happy with the food I have had!
That's all from me for now! I'll keep you updated on my adventures next week :)
