What I've Been Up To This Summer: DCSI Internship
Hi, everyone! Long time, no post! I have been busy getting back into my Seattle life. I love eating at Foco with my friends, but I missed family dinners so much!
When I'm not fawning over my dogs and plotting new ways for them to join me in Hanover, I've been working at the University District Food Bank. It's all thanks to Dartmouth that I'm here, so I want to talk a little bit about the steps I took to make my experience possible!
Late in winter term and early in spring term, my peers and I started thinking about summer opportunities. I wasn't sure what I wanted to do; I was exhausted after a long year of adjusting to college life, but I wanted to do something that still felt like a good growth opportunity. One day, I received a newsletter from the Dartmouth Center for Social Impact—a center that I was already involved with on campus. The email mentioned funding opportunities for independent social impact internships. After an application and interview, I got my acceptance email and I was ready to go!
When I think about how Dartmouth stands out from other institutions, I think of experiences like this. If you have a cool idea and are willing to put in some grunt work, there are people to help you! Countless research opportunities, internships, and other enriching options are at your fingertips.
Have you made it through this whole blog post with no interest to pursue an internship like mine? No worries–it's not everyone's cup of tea! This summer, my friends from Dartmouth are all doing cool things across the country: one of my friends is working on a boat, another is in DC with the Rockefeller Center's First-Year Fellows program, another is interning at a restorative justice organization with funding from Dartmouth. In short, the opportunities are plentiful.
Now, back to sorting bread and stocking shelves!
