My Favorite Parts of Winter Term (So Far)
To be honest, I was terrified to come back to campus. All I could remember from school was a deep desire to come home. I wanted to be in my own bed, eat home-cooked meals, and see my family. When it was time to say goodbye to Seattle once again, I felt worried that all I would want to do was turn right back around.
Thankfully, my term so far has been filled with the most fun, joyful moments. I have been busier than ever with work, friends, and school. Even so, I would not have it any other way. Here are some of my favorite parts of winter term (so far).
- No. 1
Breakfast with Jordan
Every weekday, I get breakfast with my dear friend Jordan. This has definitely been my favorite routine of the term. Instead of either not having breakfast or quickly eating alone, I have loved having a set morning ritual. This meal reminds me of elementary school when I would eat breakfast with my parents at the kitchen table. There’s never a need to catch each other up on everything since we see each other every day. Instead, we get to talk about mundane stories and homework assignments.

Ski Instructing
Ski instructing has been one of my favorite parts of winter term so far for sure. When applications were posted back in fall term, I didn’t know whether I wanted to be a ski instructor. It seemed like a job that would take a lot of hard work, patience, and a willingness to brave the bitter cold. I wasn’t wrong. However, the job has been so rewarding. I love watching fellow students learn to “pizza” on the magic carpet as they fall in love with skiing. I’ve made friends with students and other instructors. Above all, it’s been nice to spend my Sundays on the snow and away from my computer. I’ll write more about this job later, but just know that it’s been one of my favorites.

Ice Skating
Ice skating on the Green is back this winter! So far, I’ve gone ice skating twice with my friend Luca. I’m not a huge fan of the sport, but it’s a great way to socialize while being active. I rent my skates from the basement of Robinson Hall which is right next to the Green. My favorite part of the rink is seeing figure skaters use it! Some of them have very, very cool moves that I am very, very jealous of.
