Fall in New Hampshire is incredibly beautiful! All the leaves are changing colors, the temperature is getting colder, and pumpkins are everywhere. When I dreamt of my fall quarter at Dartmouth, I dreamt of the New England fall and going to pumpkin patches and apple orchards.
Recently, I did just that! The Dartmouth Outing Club (DOC) offered a trip to both Riverview Farm and McNamara Dairy at the end of Week 5. My roommate and our two friends decided to go as a way to treat ourselves after our midterms.
I was so excited to go because it reminded me of home. My favorite part of the fall is going to pumpkin patches and drinking apple cider. Going to Riverview and McNamara allowed me to do just that, only in New Hampshire!
At 2 pm, the twelve of us, including the two trip leaders, piled into the DOC van and drove about thirty minutes to Riverview Farm. It was so beautiful! The flowers were still blooming, and the trees were just starting to change colors.

At the farm, you could pick flowers, berries, and apples. They also had a pumpkin patch and a corn maze! There was a store where you could buy apple cider, cheese, and other home-made products.
My friends and I started with the berry picking. We filled a couple of containers with raspberries and then went to explore the apple trees. Most of the apples were already gone, but it was so cool to see the pretty trees!

After that, we explored the rest of the farm, ending up at the store. We bought our berries, some cheese, and some pumpkins, then sat outside as a group to enjoy the view.
From Riverview, we drove a short distance to McNamara Dairy. This farm is the home of several cows, bulls, chickens, cats, and even some donkeys! The farm also has a store attached to it that sells pies, cookies, and marshmallows.
Outside of the store is an ice cream window, where we bought ourselves "Maple Cremee"—a maple-flavored soft serve ice cream. They are a staple dessert of New Hampshire and Vermont. Highly recommend it!

After finishing our ice cream and exploring the farm some more, we piled back into the van and drove back to campus. Overall, the trip to the farms was about three hours long and was so fun!
DOC trips are perfect ways to get off campus and explore the Upper Valley, especially after a busy midterm week! I'm so excited to go on more trips in the future!
