Wow! It's been a while since my last blog post. Towards the end of winter term, I was very focused on finishing my four-course term and getting past the winter slump that we so often find ourselves in. My ability to take a break from the blog highlights one of Dartmouth's best features; flexibility among the organizations that keep campus running!

Before looking ahead to spring term, I'd like to share a little bit about what I spent doing over my spring break. I went home to Chicago, spent lots of time with family, and finished working on my project 'Middle Eastern Voices at Dartmouth' (which is now available to stream on Spotify and Apple Music, so go check it out!). Overall, spring break was an excellent opportunity to relax and rejuvenate before the new term.

I also spent tons of time playing with my beautiful cat! Here's a photo of him.

This is my last term on campus before heading off to Morocco in the summer, so I made an extra effort to focus my classes around my major of Middle Eastern Studies. I'm taking Arabic 3, Arab Political Thought, and History of the Arabic Language. These classes are often reading-heavy, but professors do a good job of assigning interesting and relevant content.

I am especially excited to continue studying Arabic before my LSA (Language Study Abroad) in Rabat, Morocco. In this class, a large focus is placed on acquiring new vocabulary and grammar skills (such as the past tense) which will be critical for doing activities in Morocco.

In terms of activities this term, I'm looking forward to taking advantage of the nicer weather and spending a bit more time outside. Furthermore, I've been really enjoying reading contemporary Arab literature; I'm currently reading I Do Not Sleep by Ihsan Abdel Kouddous, translated by Dartmouth's Professor Smolin himself! In addition, I am looking ahead to research opportunities available to me on campus; at Dartmouth, there are many opportunities to get funding for self-guided research. I am hoping to study Palestinian street art in the West Bank next winter, and I will definitely keep the blog updated with how funding is obtained for such projects! Finally, I want to focus on spending time with friends, as this is the last term that all '25s will simultaneously be on campus until senior year, due to the nature of the D-Plan.

Thanks so much for reading, and I am really looking forward to blogging this spring. In addition, congrats to all the new Dartmouth '26s recently accepted, and I can't wait to meet you next year!
