This past month, many admitted members of the Class of 2029 were around campus, exploring academic buildings, dormitories, the library and even the town that stretches beyond the Dartmouth Green. Seeing the excitement and wonder in their eyes made me realize that there are probably many students (from across the country or even across the world!) who don't have the opportunity to experience the town of Hanover yet!

While September isn't too far off, whether you're an incoming member of the '29s class, still deciding whether Dartmouth's the place for you, or just a prospective applicant, I thought I'd tell you my favorite things to do in Hanover. Even though the common conception is that Hanover is incredibly rural, I really love that it's self-contained—almost everything you need is within a six-ten minute walk, and if there's something else, the towns of Lebanon and West Lebanon are right next door.

Starting off with the most important thing: food! I really enjoy the food at Dartmouth's dining halls (particularly Collis Cafe!) but sometimes it does get monotonous to eat the same thing. My favorite restaurants in town are Umpleby's, a cafe where I get the best breakfast sandwiches, Tuk Tuk Thai for some amazing Thai food, Boloco for a good burrito bowl, and Molly's for its salads and free bread. There's also a variety of cuisines to choose from—there are Japanese, Indian, Nepali, Asian fusion, bar grub and lots more restaurants to satisfy pretty much any craving.

Some of my friends really enjoy going to fitness classes. Dartmouth requires students to take three Physical Education classes before graduation, and that's a great way to get in some spin, pilates, cardio or powerlifting workouts. These classes are held at the Alumni Gym, but there's also a yoga studio called Mighty Yoga in town! While I haven't been myself, a lot of my friends go there on a weekly basis and recommend the workouts.

There are also a few college nightlife scenes in the town—namely Murphy's, Dunks, and Sawtooth Kitchen. The vibes there are really lively and Sawtooth has some great live performances—singers, drag queens, and other types of performers who are sometimes students at Dartmouth! Also, if you have a car, there are lots of scenic places to drive to within 15 minutes: my favorites are the Dartmouth Organic Farm, the Gile mountain top for a quick hike, King Arthur Flour for some great sandwiches and coffee.

There's a lot more to do in town, and I hope that this quick overview of life in Hanover helped you envision your time here just in case you haven't been able to make the trek yet! Best of luck to everybody for decision day—I'm sure you'll make the right choice for yourself :)
