Hi! I'm Reece, and I am '28 from Northern California! I hope to study Government, Policy, and Religion in college but come winter, I'll just be hoping to survive the snow. Outside of classes, I love to read, crochet, and journal, and can't wait to expand on my interests this year. I love the outdoors—but hate hiking—and I can't wait for my first spring on the Green! My name is Reece and I am a '28 from the far-off state of California. I love California, and everything it has to offer, but I can't wait for these next four years at Dartmouth! To be frank, I'm a bit nervous about the winter cold, but as I've learned, through reading this very blog, it's nothing a good coat can't fix.
Before I start rambling about my life here in Hanover, my new classes, clubs, and experiences, I feel I must properly introduce myself to all of you!
As I mentioned, my name is Reece, and I'm from California, more specifically Northern California. I love to read, crochet, and watch movies with friends. I also love going to the movie theater by myself—don't knock it 'til you try it—and spent (almost) every Tuesday night this past summer at my local movie theater. I recently found out that there is a popular theater in Hanover called "Nugget Theaters" and I can't wait to check it out.
A random fun fact about me is that I suck at typing. Once when I was in tenth grade, I rushed and submitted an in-class essay with over two hundred spelling mistakes. I have since become a master of spellcheck, but I still unintentionally let some mistakes slip through the cracks—it's not my fault that typing 't' 'e' 'h' is faster than typing 't' 'h' 'e'.
I also have a really random talent and can balance almost anything on my head. It started when I was in middle school when we weren't allowed to bring our backpacks to class and had to carry all of our books in our hands. I eventually learned how to balance my laptop and textbooks on my head to free up my hands, and have never looked back. Although we are allowed to wear backpacks here at Dartmouth, my talent has still proven useful when I have to carry packages from Hinman—the student mailing and package center—to my dorm.

Finally, I want to share my love of sourdough bread. Now, my infatuation with this gorgeous, gut-healthy, baked good goes beyond the typical love. On more than one occasion, I have downed an entire artisan loaf within forty-eight hours, and I have no regrets. I am obsessed with sourdough bread and I just recently learned how to make it myself. Unfortunately, as a busy first-year, I haven't found time to bake some bread myself, but in the meantime, our dining hall—nicknamed "FoCo," short for "food court"—has a sandwich station with sourdough that will keep me sustained until the end of term.

Welcome back to Open Doors—your inside look at life in the Woods! This week, Sarah Getraer '26, a studio art major, showed me around her dorm room, where we discussed Dartmouth residence halls, classes, and campus life.
Senior spring is here and it is surreal to reflect on how much my daily routine has evolved. We have just welcomed the Class of 2030, and I am so incredibly excited for the next generation of Dartmouth students to find their home in Hanover!
