24W Reflection
I thought that it could be fun to take a look back at my Winter 2024 preview, and see how my term actually compared to what I thought it would be!
Classes
Before the term started, I didn't know what my third course would be. I ended up taking English 7.48 (Law, Literature, and Justice) to fufill my First-Year Seminar requirement. Although taking this class was an impromptu decision that I made during the add/drop period, I ended up really enjoying it. My professor challenged my classmates and I to think about how we define and perceive justice, which was incredibly interesting. I also made some new class friends!
My other two classes, Latin 2 and Classics 11.17 (Greek Athletics) were also interesting, and I learned a lot this term in both. Taking those classes confirmed my interest in Classical Studies, which I now plan to major in.
Another exciting academic development this term was finding out that I was accepted to two study abroad programs! This summer, I'll be going to Rome as a part of F.I.R.E, and next spring I'll be taking part in the Classics FSP in Greece. I can't wait to blog about my time abroad!
Extracurriculars
In my preview, I talked about my plan to participate in D-LAB, a Dartmouth first-year program. I ended up having a great time in this program and meeting a lot of new friends! D-LAB challenged me to define my personal values and take action to implement them in my daily life, which was difficult yet rewarding. I would highly recommend D-LAB to anyone interested in it!
One unexpected extracurricular activity that I added this term was the Dartmouth Civics Student Association. I was already involved in a few political organizations on campus, but I was excited to add a non-partisan group focused on getting as many people as possible to vote!
Outdoors
I already blogged about skiing, which you can read here. In addition to my weekly trips to the Skiway, I tried to embrace the cold weather by going on frequent Woccoms (walks around Occom Pond) with my friends. I even studied outside this term (albeit in a jacket, on a sunny day)! I'm definitely looking forward to the sunshiney days of spring term, but I think that the winter weather was a good change of pace on campus.
Traditions
To be honest, I didn't engage in as many Winter Carnival activities as I thought I would. Nevertheless, my friends and I established some of our own "traditions" this term that I love. Noah and I have attended nearly every home men's hockey game, I have a weekly breakfast with some of my skiing friends, and I have established a space in Blobby that I feel super comfortable in.
Winter term was amazing, and I can't wait to get back to campus in the spring to see what the next term has in store for me!
