A Day In The Life: Week 9 Edition!
Every term, I enjoy documenting a day in my life for two reasons. Firstly, it's one of the most frequent questions I get as an admissions blogger ("What's your everyday life at Dartmouth like?"). Secondly, it's nice to see how my schedule has changed over the years. Here's a dive into a random Tuesday in my life:
9 AM: I woke up at 9 AM today because I have my class in an hour. Luckily, I only have morning classes on Tuesdays and Thursdays, so on other days, I can sleep in a little bit. It was raining this morning, so it was kind of gloomy, BUT my friends and I managed to catch a rainbow!
10 AM–12 PM: I went across campus to Moore Psychology Building, where most psychology, cognitive science, and neuroscience classes happen for my 10A (classes that take place between 10:10 AM and 12 PM on Tuesdays and Thursdays)—Developmental Psychology (PSYC25). Today, we discussed the role of gender in aiding development.
1 PM: After class, I got some more work done, then went to FoCo (or the 1953 Class of Commons, the main dining hall on campus) for lunch with my friends. I had grilled cheese and salad, which were my tried and true favorites.
2 PM: After lunch, I went to the gym and did a quick workout with a friend. After that, I went home, showered, and got ready for the rest of my day.
4 PM–7 PM: From 4 PM–7 PM, I was shooting my movie for my Filmmaking I (FILM31) class this term. I've really enjoyed the entire class, though it's definitely been really time-consuming to make a movie. Today, we shot the final confrontation scene, which was great! I'm really lucky to be working with actors (all undergraduates at Dartmouth) who really understand the essence of the story. We used cameras and equipment from Dartmouth's film department and shot within the Black Family Visual Arts Centre (BVAC), the home of the Film & Media Studies department.
8 PM: I went into town with my friends for a friend's birthday dinner at Han Fusion, a favorite for all Dartmouth students in Hanover. We got some scallion pancakes and lots of dumplings. It was great.
10 PM: I went back to the Visual Arts Centre to edit the footage that I had shot for today. Then, I got some more work done on an essay in my third class, Theories & Methodologies in Film Studies (FILM040). Then, I spent the next two hours with a friend, editing the film and taking notes on certain takes.
1 AM: I went back to my apartment off-campus, took a quick shower, and got into bed!
That was a day in my life. I hope it gives you some insight into the life of a film major at Dartmouth. This term, specifically, has been super film-heavy, but I've really enjoyed it. See you next term when I tell you more about a day in my life—winter edition!
