Student section at Thompson Arena

Dartmouth is renowned for its sports teams! Whether it's an NCAA D1, intramural, or club team, there is always a game happening on campus, all of which are free to students.

Recently, I went to cheer on my friends at the women's club ice hockey game. It was my floormates'—Molly and Reece (who is also a People Places Pines blogger)—first home game of the season, so my friends and I had to cheer them on!

Before the game, my roommate Vanessa, fellow blogger Cooper, and I made signs for them. We spelled out "WE 💚 16 and 20," the jersey numbers of Molly and Reece. We held them up the entire game!

After making the signs, we walked to Thompson Arena, Dartmouth's hockey rink, where the hockey game was happening. We met up with more friends, and we all sat down in the front row of the student section.

Dartmouth was playing against Smith College. We watched the teams warm up and then the first period started! It was my first time watching a hockey game, and it did not disappoint! Our seats were right at the glass near the net, so we saw a lot of gameplay!

During the first period, Dartmouth scored a goal right in front of us. The student section erupted, so excited for our hockey team to be the first point on the scoreboard.

During intermission, when the teams went into the locker room, the student section worked on homework because finals were soon. Studying at a hockey game is surprisingly fun and worthwhile. I will probably do it again in the winter when there are more hockey games!

The team was just as amazing in the second period as in the first. Smith scored once, but Dartmouth scored again, making the score 2-1. Some of the student section had to leave for meetings, but we were still just as loud when they scored.

After the second period, a Zamboni came out to clean the ice rink. This was so fun to watch! I did not study during this intermission because I was too focused on watching the Zamboni.

Once the ice was finally clean, the third period began, and Dartmouth crushed it! They scored four more points in this period, ending the game 6-1.

Dartmouth won!! We cheered so loudly for the team, but especially loud for our friends—Molly and Reece. It was so awesome watching them on the ice! They were so good! After the game, we took pictures and then I made the trek back to my dorm to work on my essay some more.

Going to the club hockey game was a great way to cheer on my friends and the school. I had so much fun doing it, and I cannot wait to go to more hockey games in the winter!
