Overview of Dartmouth Center for Social Impact!
Not only does Dartmouth provide students with a world-class education, but it also offers amazing programs and initiatives for students to get involved in their community.
Dartmouth Center for Social Impact (DCSI) is a hub of resources and opportunities for students interested in volunteering and working with non-profit organizations. There is a broad range of programs for all class years and interests.
During my first year, I've been involved with Foundations in Social Impact. This two-term program introduces first-year students to community consulting. In the winter, first-year students learn the "foundations" of NGO work, such as how to identify a problem, communicate with community members, and generate ideas to make a meaningful difference in the community.
In the spring term, students apply what they have learned by completing a real-world community consulting project. Participants are matched with local community organizations in teams and tasked with finding a solution to a problem affecting the organization.
This term, my team is working with the Upper Valley Trails Alliance (UVTA) to improve accessibility and inclusiveness on hiking trails in Vermont and New Hampshire.

This program is really cool because it teaches first-year students helpful lessons on NGO work and connects students with local organizations to make a real difference. Through Foundations, I've felt more connected to the greater community outside of Dartmouth, and I feel more prepared to give back to my community back home.
In addition to Foundations, DCSI facilitates other community outreach programs—specifically programs focused on educational access and youth mentorship.
Some of my friends are involved with SIBs, a program that pairs a Dartmouth student with an elementary student to mentor one-on-one. They hang out with the students and do activities together. The program is meant to provide support to students.
DCSI offers many programs for elementary and high school students. During the school year, Dartmouth students can get involved with Dartmouth TEACH. In this program, undergraduates assist in an elementary classroom once a week.
In the summer, undergraduates can also help with Strengthening Education Access with Dartmouth (SEAD). This program helps low-income/first-generation Upper Valley high school students and prepares them for college.

These two programs are great experiences for students interested in education and community outreach!
DCSI also offers summer internships. Students can apply for internships in San Francisco, Philadelphia, Boston, and Cape Town. Now, for the first time, DCSI is also offering an internship in the Upper Valley!
Each internship focuses on issues affecting that community and pairs students with a local non-profit. Students also live with other Dartmouth undergraduates, so it's a fantastic experience!
DCSI offers so many other wonderful opportunities and programs to students. No matter your major or potential career path, DCSI is a great place to get involved in the Upper Valley and give back!
