Hey everyone! I'm Cooper from Wayne, Pennsylvania, which is right outside of Philadelphia. I am a '28 here at Dartmouth, and plan on studying Quantitative Social Science and Psychology. In my free time, I love getting food with friends, playing pickleball, watching sitcoms (personal favorite is Modern Family), and going on walks. I am super excited to be here and cannot wait to take you along my journey at Dartmouth!
I took this class with Professor Binkoski, and I absolutely loved it! We explored numerous theories regarding time travel and the existence of time, and it just completely blew my mind. Professor Binkoski is such an engaging lecturer and explains everything so thoroughly, which makes the class so incredible! After taking this class, I have become more interested in philosophy and cannot wait to take more classes in this department.
I took this class with Professor Horiuchi and learned more than I could have possibly imagined! This course is incredibly challenging and has a good amount of work, but I learned so much about the programing language R as well as how to wrangle and visualize data. By taking this class, I have confirmed that I want to major in QSS because of how interesting the material was. If you want to enhance your skills in R, this is the class to take!
In order to fulfill my language requirement, I took Spanish 9 with Professor Rieumont. This class was simply incredible. Not only was the content interesting and engaging, but my actual class itself (both the professor and fellow students) made this class so memorable. We learned so much about Spanish-speaking cultures all while having so much fun doing it, and I am so grateful that I took this class with such an amazing group!

I was home for the summer! I was able to catch up with family and friends, work at a local ice-cream shop, and relax for a few months. It was amazing to be back in my hometown!!
I took this class with Professor Emily Finn, and I absolutely adored it! Because it is an introductory class, you learn about various topics within the neuroscience field, but mainly at the surface level. It was incredibly interesting, and it is a perfect introduction to the major overall!
I took this class with Professor Pulju (who I also took LING 1 with), and I was blown away. Not only is the content in this class just so incredibly interesting, but Professor Pulju teaches it in such a way that makes studying for any assignment actually enjoyable. If you like puzzles and deductive sciences, this class is perfect for you!
I took this with Professor Wray, and I was in awe of how much I learned in this class. Although the name sounds a bit confusing, this is essentially an introductory statistics class with a focus on psychological research. We learned how to form hypotheses, run statistical tests, and reach conclusions, and I know that this will be incredibly useful for future courses in both Psychology and Quantitative Social Science!
Because spring term is well underway, I think it is time to talk about what classes I am taking! This term, I am continuing to fulfill a lot of my major and minor classes, so let's get right into it.
PSYC 1 (Introductory Psychology): I am taking this class for the Psychology major (yes, I am now declared Psychology)! It fulfills the Social Analysis (SOC) distributive, and is a large lecture class with about 70 people in it. This class is taught by two professors, Professor Duchaine and Professor Wheatley, and they make the class incredibly interesting. In fact, during one of our lectures, Professor Wheatley hypnotized us, which was such a crazy experience. This class is all about the subject of Psychology, and deals with topics such as perception, memory, and learning just to name a few! I would highly recommend taking this class if you have any interest in the brain or behavior.
PSYC 10 (Experimental Design, Methodology, and Data Analysis Procedures): I am taking this class also for the Psychology major. It fulfills the Quantitative and Deductive Science (QDS) distributive, and is a large lecture class with about 50 people. This class is taught by Professor Wray, who is genuinely incredible. She is super sweet and accommodating, which makes the class seem super seamless. This class teaches you all things statistics (think of it as AP statistics) but through a Psychology lens. It is very interesting and not terribly hard, which makes it a very rewarding class.

LING 48 (Accelerated Computational Linguistics): I am taking this class for the Linguistics minor. It fulfills the Technology or Applied Science (TAS) distributive (which is one of the harder ones to get in my opinion), and is a medium-sized class with about 25 students. This class is taught by Professor Coto-Solano, who is one of the sweetest professors I have ever met. He is super engaged in the content and wants to make sure that his students are as well, which helps a lot with understanding the material. This class focuses on understanding language and language processing through a computational approach, and we use programs such as Python and Google Colab to complete our assignments. So far, this class has really opened me up to more disciplines within the Linguistics field, which has confirmed my interest in the subject!

QSS 20 (Modern Statistical Computing): I am taking this class for the QSS major. It fulfills the TAS distributive, and is a medium-sized class with about 30 students. This class is taught by Professor Chang (a Dartmouth alum!), and he is simply the best. Because he went to Dartmouth, he definitely knows how rigorous these terms can be, so he is extremely accommodating. This class teaches you about many different types of coding languages, and is really essential if you want a career in data science!

There was never a single "aha!" moment of clarity when I knew that Dartmouth was right for me, yet now, it is impossible for me to imagine having chosen anywhere else.
From a tight-knit study abroad cohort to intimate classroom moments and inspiring literary talks, French has grown far beyond a minor — becoming a thread that runs through the most meaningful parts of her Dartmouth life.
Amid the whirlwind of a ten-week term, the quietest moments — studying in the sun, cooking with a friend, running through Pine Park — turn out to be the ones worth savoring most.
