Four figures stand inside a room with three pieces of art on the walls

During campus tours, people often ask me what Dartmouth students do on the weekends. While I can't speak for everyone, I like to stay busy on my days off!
This past week, I had a really busy day shadowing at Dartmouth Health, working at the Hood Museum of Art, eating amazing barbecue, as well as watching my friend in a play!

I woke up bright and early to shadow a doctor at Dartmouth Health. Every term, Dartmouth's Nathan Smith Society, the pre-health society on campus, sponsors a shadowing program for any interested students. There is a long list of doctors that students can choose from, from pediatrics to psychiatry. These shadowing opportunities are fantastic not only for shadowing hours for health professional schools but also for hands-on experience in finding out what type of medical specialty speaks to students! I chose to shadow a neonatal doctor, and I was able to see her interactions with patients, residents, and patient families. It was incredibly valuable to see a day in the life of a doctor, which is my goal. While I can't discuss specifics about the patients due to HIPAA, I'll say I definitely learned a lot in the span of one morning!

After shadowing, I headed to the Hood Museum of Art. As a Hood intern, I have many different responsibilities, and today, I helped with a community art-making event. The museum often hosts different events for Upper Valley residents, showing that it is an asset not only for Dartmouth students but also for the general public. It was so rewarding helping children assemble gold and silver art pieces modeled after the new Gilded exhibit in the museum.

Following this, I went to Big Fatty's Barbeque for dinner with a friend. This amazing restaurant in White River Junction has barbeque that reminds me of home, with the taste of homemade brisket and baked beans!

To finish the day, I watched my friend perform in a play she wrote and directed in under 24 hours! As the website explains, "In 24 hours, students write, rehearse and perform their own original works. A Dartmouth student theater tradition."

What a day! I'm so grateful to go to a college that always keeps me on my toes.
