A Spotlight on Winterim Resources
There are several reasons why people opt to stay on campus during winterim. They may be an athlete, taking an accelerated EMT course sponsored by Dartmouth EMS, participating in Tuck Business Bridge or TuckLAB, or working for an employer in the area. Some simply cannot or choose not to go home for a variety of reasons, including financial or geographical. Regardless of why people remain on campus during winterim, Dartmouth does a wonderful job at offering different resources and programming specifically for this six-week break. Let's spotlight a few!
- The Winterim Events Calendar: This calendar is the hub for all events that take place from Thanksgiving Day to move-in at the beginning of January.
- Dartmouth Outing Club (DOC): Surprisingly, the DOC offered programming to keep students occupied during winterim, ranging from solstice hikes to Dungeons & Dragons!
- First-Generation Office (FGO) and the Office of Pluralism and Leadership (OPAL): If you're looking for more social, less outdoorsy events to keep you warm in the New England winter weather, the FGO and OPAL offer events such as career help, movie nights at the Nugget (with free tickets), shuttles to local grocery stores in Lebanon or West Lebanon, and arts and crafts!
- House communities: There is always at least one house community that offers fun social events during winterim. This year, North Park and South House collaborated to offer sauna sessions.
- Dartmouth Dining: FoCo, Dartmouth's main dining hall, remains open during winterim and offers to-go meals for days they close. Additionally, locations like the Hanover Inn and The Church of Christ at Dartmouth College offer free meals during holidays like Thanksgiving and Christmas—no religious affiliation required or expected.
