Studying Abroad (Again)!
What first caught my eye about Dartmouth was its robust study abroad program, and with my love for the Classics already instilled in me by high school, I knew I wanted to do either the Rome or Greek FSP (Foreign Study Program) during my time at Dartmouth.
While I couldn't do the Rome FSP because of my class schedule, I knew I wanted to do the Greek FSP (students can do both if they choose; Dartmouth students can do up to three different study abroad experiences). A side note: you don't have to be a Classics major or minor to go on the trip, which is the case for most, if not all, study abroad programs; many of the students on my trip don't have a Classics background!
Two of our courses are taught at College Year Athens, which hosts American students from all over the US. While some classes are held in the campus's classrooms, most of the classes are taught at sites all over Athens, which allows us to really experience the city as it was two thousand years ago.

The third class is taught by Professor Christesen, a Dartmouth Classics professor, and is taught as we travel through Greece and Italy. As we explore archaeological sites, Professor Christesen walks us through the ins and outs of Ancient Greece—we're really lucky to have him as our instructor because he's one of the leading scholars of Ancient Sparta! For one week, part of the group will go to a remote island called Despotiko to help with an ongoing archaeological dig, which is truly a once-in-a-lifetime experience.
While the trip has just begun, I'm thrilled for the next ten weeks as I finish my Classics major and my overall Dartmouth career!
