Bienvenido!
"Lotería!!"
A common phrase shouted once someone fills up their card. Lotería is a similar game to bingo that is quite popular in Mexican households.
The Mexican Student Association hosted a welcome back event this past Friday that was open to all students. It was a lot of fun as we planned out the logistics a week in advance at our executive meeting. A factor of Dartmouth I greatly appreciate is the ability to make a meaningful difference in areas you are passionate about. As a member of the Board, it grants me the opportunity to connect with other students from various grade levels. It is always fun hearing their tips and tricks to help maximize my experience at Dartmouth.
We hosted the event in Studio Sudikoff, a great space for students to listen to music and gather in large groups; this space is usually open to all students and has some helpful cubicles that are the perfect spot if you need to get some work done. Loteria was a great success!

It is pretty easy to host events on campus with a little creativity. The monetary funding may take time but there are areas at Dartmouth that provide students with loans or redirection on how to host events even under a budget.
A common question I would ask myself when I was touring colleges was: "Would I be supported here on a bad day?" I will be the first to admit it is easy to fall in love with colleges when times are easy. However, how will you succeed in those moments when things feel a little difficult or when you start to get homesick. Thanks to areas on campus such as the Mexican Student Association, I know I would feel culturally at home as I met with other students who are equally as passionate about their studies and having a good time.
Overall, these types of student associations are very common and impactful at Dartmouth. Off the top of my head, I can tell you about the Korean Student Association and the Vietnamese Student Association. This upcoming Wednesday, the Vietnamese Student Association is hosting a Pho event. My friends and I are really looking forward to attending the event and being able to support some of our friends who serve on the leadership team! Dartmouth gives you a lot of opportunities to try new things, the real question is if you will be supported and encouraged to participate in them.
From my experience, Dartmouth not only provides you with the financial resources, but also the emotional support to ensure you are at your best.
