The Great Weekend!
At the tail-end of a cold winter, it's easy to feel fatigued by the thick coats, the snow, and all of the gear you have to wear (oh, and that day that we hit the -30 mark—that was great!) But every year, especially in spring, there comes some respite that absolutely makes up for the past three months. This weekend was that for all Dartmouth students who took advantage of the weather—ranging from the 70s to the 80s (18-25 degrees Celsius for my international students!)—and decided to make the most of it.
Here are four things my friends and I did this weekend.
1. Lay on the Green
In the cold of winter, when the green is actually the white (because of the thick snow), it's not advised to sunbathe there. But this weekend, the Green was a party—there were hundreds of students, some lying down, others reading a book, and there were even spirited games of frisbee and spikeball. It looked like a picturesque college pamphlet of what a quad should look like—and this weekend, it did.
2. Go for a car ride
My friends and I decided to rent a car and drive through the hills of New Hampshire and Vermont for two hours while blasting loud music and feeling the spring breeze. While we didn't get much of the insane amount of work we had done, it was a great time. (We apologize to the residents of West Lebanon, NH for the Taylor Swift concert we gave them.)
3. Go to the river!
The river's back—finally. I went for a dip in the river, while all my friends sunbathed. Word of caution: the water is still freezing and not a nice 'cool' right now, but give it a few weeks and I'm sure it'll be great.
4. Enjoy some darties
Darties are day-parties, which Greek Houses throw sometimes in the winter but mainly in the spring. They're usually on the House's lawn and are a more chilled-out vibe than the night scenes, so you can chill with your friends, enjoy some good music, and be wrapped up by 5 o'clock.
This weekend was great and I hope we get more weather like this soon!
